The Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate now has 60 members! In the past week, the coalition has welcomed the Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, Minister of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications of Fiji and the Hon. Richard Maru, Trade Minister of Papua New Guinea as its 59th and 60th members.
Papua New Guinea announced its membership at a ministerial roundtable hosted by the coalition at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos. The roundtable brought together a diverse group of ministers responsible for trade, climate, finance as well as heads of the World Trade Organization, UNFCCC, and UNCTAD in a much-needed effort to identify opportunities for international cooperation and collective action.
In related news, a diverse set of ten trade ministers jointly co-authored an op-ed on "breaking silos" between trade, climate, and finance communities to drive ambitious and inclusive action.
Our Executive Director, Carolyn Deere Birkbeck, was present to support the coalition’s roundtable in Davos. We look forward to continuing our support to this critical group for high-level leadership and cooperation on the nexus of trade, climate, and sustainable development.
