Principles for Consideration in the Design and Implementation of Trade-Related Climate Measures and Policies

This event provided an opportunity for a discussion on principles for consideration in the design and implementation of trade-related climate measures and policies.

This side event at the WTO's Trade and Environment Week was hosted by Colombia in the context of its proposal for discussion in the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment on principles and parameters that should guide trade and environment discussions in the WTO, and for discussions with experts and stakeholders on this topic.

The event was hosted in cooperation with TESS and featured an advance discussion of a forthcoming report on Principles for consideration in the design and implementation of trade-related climate measures and policies, produced by a diverse group of international experts on international trade law and climate law convened by TESS.

At the event, several of the expert group members provided insights from the forthcoming report. This was followed by remarks from a number of ambassadors and senior government representatives who were invited to share their reflections and views on the importance and relevance of such principles to international cooperation on climate, trade, and sustainable development and how to advance dialogue around these considerations.
