TESS hosted this hybrid meeting of experts on trade and plastic pollution, many of whom have been engaged in earlier meetings of this informal expert group, shortly after the conclusion of the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution (INC-3).
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss opportunities to bolster cooperation and outcomes on trade-related aspects of plastic pollution, focusing on the WTO Dialogue on Plastics Pollution and the road to the Thirteenth WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) in February 2024 as well as on the ongoing INC plastics treaty process. The meeting included an opportunity for experts to debrief on trade-related issues discussed at INC-3 and their relevance to work underway at the WTO and other international processes and organizations addressing the nexus of trade and plastic pollution.
The meeting brought together experts that are engaged closely in following and contributing to trade-related discussions in both the INC and the WTO processes.
