The expert group, co-convened by TESS and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), held the second of a series of meetings bringing together a diverse group of international experts on trade, critical minerals, and the clean energy transition to focus on pathways for cooperation on intersecting sustainability, development, and security objectives.
The meeting was held amid rising tensions at the intersection of trade, critical minerals, and the clean energy transition, where growing demand and concentrated supply chains are reshaping global dynamics. It convened a small group of international experts from policy, research, and stakeholder communities to explore how trade can support resilient supply chains, promote sustainable and inclusive development, and contribute effectively to the global clean energy transition.
The second meeting was structured around two sessions. Session 1 discussed and provisionally endorsed a broad conceptual framework for the expert group work programme. Session 2 discussed the proposed outline for the expert group’s final report.
The International Expert Group on Trade, Critical Minerals, and the Clean Energy Transition is comprised of trade, climate, and mineral policy experts from academia, think tanks, intergovernmental organizations, and stakeholder organizations representing diverse regional perspectives and areas of expertise, all of whom are participating in their personal capacities.
