Julian Berkowitz-Sklar is a Research Associate at the Forum on Trade, Environment, & the SDGs (TESS), where he contributes to expert consultation processes, policy research, and knowledge products designed to inform policy dialogue.

Julian is an undergraduate at Yale University, where he is pursuing a degree in Cognitive Science with a minor in Climate Science and Solutions and a prospective minor in Public Policy. At Yale, he is a research assistant at the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy (YCELP), where he supports the Remaking Trade Project and served as the student lead in organizing YCELP’s first AI and Sustainability Workshop.

Having grown up in Costa Rica for the first decade of his life, Julian’s early exposure to environmental work came through wildlife conservation work with local communities. He is the co-founder of Nature Now International, a nonprofit that engages youth in community-based conservation through science, outreach, and advocacy in California and Costa Rica. He is also an intern in the Climate Change Program at the California Natural Resources Agency, where he works on communications and policy related to climate resilience and the integration of nature-based solutions.

Julian is fluent in English and Spanish and enjoys playing basketball and tennis, backpacking, and spending time outdoors.
