Aid for Sustainable and Resilient Trade: Supporting Developing Countries' Climate Action Strategies

This Aid for Trade Global Review session is organized by Ecuador and Australia, in partnership with the Forum on Trade, Environment, and the SDGs (TESS).

At MC14, a broad range of Ministerial statements, including from several large groupings of developing countries and the Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate, underscored the importance of Aid for Trade in supporting developing countries to participate effectively in international trade and develop trade strategies to support competitiveness, adaptation, and resilience in the context of accelerating impacts of the climate crisis and the push for more sustainable trade.

As developing countries work to harness trade and trade policies for core priorities of economic diversification, transformation and prosperity, this session will explore the role of Aid for Trade in supporting trade strategies that respond to environmental/climate risks, challenges and opportunities. Alongside, it will consider how to strengthen links with investment, trade, development, and climate finance as vital complements to create pathways for more sustainable trade.

Moderated by TESS Executive Director Carolyn Deere Birkbeck, this session will feature Noah Kouback, Director General of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Vanuatu; David Beer, CEO, TradeMark Africa; Kristin Tilley, Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Australia; and Luis Oña-Garcés, Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Ecuador.
